3 Reasons To Upgrade To The MOTOTRBO R7 (2023)

By Niamh McManus

The MOTOTRBO R7 is the latest digital two-way radio released by Motorola. Following the launch of the R7 Motorola has also announced the cancellation of the previously well-loved DP4000e series two-way radios.

The Motorola DP4000e series radio has been widely adopted in many industries such as security, manufacturing and education. With the cancellation of the DP4000e series anyone looking to add to their radio system could feel stumped.

During the cancellation announcement of the DP4000e series, Motorola did recommend the MOTOTRBO R7 as the ideal upgrade and replacement. After some in-house reviews and tests of the two devices, today’s blog post will highlight the top 3 reasons you should upgrade to the MOTOTRBO R7.

MOTOTRBO R7

Reason 1 – Enhanced Audio Capabilities.

Traditionally it’s thought that Digital radios have bad audio quality. Often people think the voice that can be heard through them is very robotic. This puts off a lot of users from choosing digital radios.

The main thing that sets the MOTOTRBO R7 apart from other two-way radios is its audio capabilities. During the product launch, Motorola put a lot of emphasis on this with the main message being ‘hear and be heard’

The MOTOTRBO R7 features adaptive dual microphone noise suppression. Although this sounds complicated, it means the device has two mics instead of one. The front mic picks up the sound of the user’s voice and the back mic samples background noise. These two mics then work together to automatically adjust the volume of each mic to ensure that the user’s voice is the main thing being transmitted. This feature means that the device has incredible noise cancellation

The MOTOTRBO R7 operates at 104 phones straight out and can be programmed to operate up to 107 phones. This performs extremely well in loud environments such as manufacturing warehouses, football stadiums or airport runways.

Reason 2 – Improved  User Experience

Some major design changes have been applied to the MOTOTRBO which Motorola has never done before. These changes greatly add to the overall user experience of the device and show that Motorola has kept the end users in mind during the creative design process.

Firstly, the MOTOTRBO R7 has a 2.4-inch high-pixel display. The first impressive thing about the display is that it is transflective. Having a transflective screen means that the display can reflect the sunlight it is exposed to and automatically adjust the backlight on the device. This makes it easier for you to see the screen easily when outside in direct sunlight.

Secondly, the 2.4-inch screen means that notifications and information are easily visible at a glance. If you received a text message for example, instead of having to click through the navigational menu on the device to go to the inbox, the text message would show on the main display.

Lastly, the keypad buttons and the emergency button have been made bigger. Many of the industries that use two-way radios also wear gloves as part of their protective equipment. The bigger the buttons are the easier they are to push, especially with gloves on. Again, I think that this demonstrates the thought Motorola has given to the end users while designing the MOTOTRBO R7.

Reason 3 – Built to Last

The third and final reason why you should upgrade to the MOTOTRBO R7 is that they are built to last.

One of the only good things to come out of the covid-19 pandemic is the new design for two-way radio housing from Motorola. The MOTOTRBO R7 series has antimicrobial housing to protect against germs and contaminants.

The devices have been tested for MIL-STD-H and have IP ratings of 66 and 68. IP68 means that the device is completely dust tight and waterproof – ideal for if you are working in harsh environments. The IP 66 refers to the fact it can withstand direct impact from a highly pressurised water source such as a jet wash. Impressively, Motorola claims that the R7 can be submerged in 2m of water for up to 2hrs.!

And lastly one of my favourite features on the MOTOTRBO R7 – is the newly designed accessory connector. The new connector is corrosion-proof and does not require a dust cover to maintain its IP rating. In my experience, many two-way radios need to be replaced or repaired due to damage to the accessory connector meaning that they cannot be reprogrammed or returned. This new corrosion-proof connector should dramatically increase the longevity of your device’s lifespan!
