Effective Guidelines for Disinfecting & Cleaning Two-Way Radio (2020)

By 2WRS

In response to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, 2Way Radio Shop is offering some guidelines on effectively cleaning and disinfecting your two-way radios and accessories.

Two-way radio cleaning and disinfecting is a good regular maintenance practice.

First, you should check to see if the manufacturer provided two-way radio cleaning guidelines with the radio.

Before you clean the radio, make sure it is turned off and the battery has been removed. Find a well-ventilated area to conduct the cleaning in.

When cleaning your two-way radio it is important to know the basic dos and don’ts to prevent damage

Don’t

  • Do not immerse the radio in water.
  • Do not clean the radio while it is turned on or charging.
  • Do not pour or spray any cleaning solution or liquid directly onto the surface of the radio.

Do

  • Be sure the radio is turned off.
  • Remove the batteries or battery pack before cleaning.
  • Clean a battery pack housing separately, and only the outer facing plastic shell or housing.
  • Remove the belt clip if possible and clean it separately.

  4. Ensure that no solution remains in or around any connectors, cracks or crevices.

  3. Apply the isopropyl to a clean cloth, then use it to wipe down the device.
  4. Certain chemicals and the vapours they emit can have a detrimental effect on plastic and metal plating’s.
